Chiropractic Care

We provide advanced spinal correction and chiropractic adjustments utilizing "state of the art" chiropractic techniques.. Many of the newest chiropractic techniques are actually safer, more comfortable and more effective than ever before. As a chiropractor who cares about utilizing the most advanced chiropractic techniques, Dr. Trent Stevens and Dr. Darcee Schmidt have years of training, expertise and experience in helping patients get pain relief for back pain, neck pain, headaches, and other related conditions originating from the spine. Chiropractic care under a trained professional can even be used to prevent injuries and help you achieve total health or wellness.  Chiropractic is safe and effective for all ages.

Sports Injuries

After an injury occurs the body begins to heal the damaged tissue during the inflammatory process.  This is a normal process in healing.  Scar tissue is laid down to help provide support and strength to the injured tissue.  However, this scar tissue doesn't stretch or move like normal healthy tissue. If left untreated the body will compensate for this injured area and may create imbalances in other muscles or joints.  These imbalances make you weaker, less stable, and more prone to other injuries.  Our doctors at SMR Chiropractic have extensive training in treating sports injuries with manual therapies and rehabilitation exercises to get you back on the field as quickly as possible.

Corrective Exercises

At SMR Chiropractic, we teach our patients how to perform special "blueprint" exercises which can help strengthen and correct the irregularities in their body which may be causing pain. Many of these corrective exercises can actually be performed in the comfort of your own home to help improve the effectiveness of your chiropractic care and spinal correction plan. In addition to skeletal misalignment, you may be experiencing pain that is caused by muscles and connective tissues which are not functioning optimally. Other types of pain such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches are caused by muscles and tissues that are being used improperly, causing injuries over time. In each case, targeted corrective exercises and stretches from our experienced chiropractor will help you feel good while also helping your body achieve balance and health.

Active Release Techniques (ART)®

ART® is a state of the art movement based soft tissue treatment technique that treats problems with muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves, and fascia.  When an injury occurs scar tissue forms.  While essential for healing sometimes the scar tissue does not resolve completely which makes the soft tissue less pliable and adhesions may form in the muscle or between muscles.  The doctor uses his hand with a precise tension on the muscle and a specific patient movement to break apart that scar tissue which helps restore your normal muscle function.

Pregnancy Care

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is completely safe and very effective at decreasing pelvic, low back, and upper back/neck discomfort that occurs as the body changes.  Studies have found that at least half of expectant moms experience back pain during pregnancy.  As the baby grows the mom's center of gravity gradually shifts forward and places extra stress on the spine, joints, and muscles.  When the pelvis becomes misaligned it may decrease the amount of room available for the developing baby.  Chiropractic care helps correct these imbalances and restores proper function to your pelvis.  Dr. Darcee Schmidt is also Webster certified, a specific technique to realign the pelvis and decrease tension on the uterus, allowing the baby to find the most optimal position it can.

Auto Accident Injuries

The most common injury after a car accident is whiplash.  This injury overstretches the muscles, joints, and ligaments in the spine which creates pain, tightness and stiffness.  It's important to get the body to relax as quickly as possible to avoid any long term problems/injuries.  This injury to the body creates scar tissue.  Although scar tissue is necessary for healing, many times it may adhere to other structures nearby, such as nerves or other muscles and create more pain.  This also can limit your range of motion.  It's important to seek treatment sooner rather than later to help your muscles, joints and scar tissue heal properly.  We are trained and experienced at treating injuries post auto accident.

Laser Therapy

We offer the most technologically advanced laser therapies used to help thousands of patients.  It is safe, soothing, and effective.  Laser Therapy works by flooding the tissues with photons, energizing the damaged cells and increasing circulation to the painful area. This produces a cascade of healing responses in your body, reducing inflammation, thereby reducing or even eliminating your pain. Treatments take just a few minutes, and the therapeutic effect continues to soothe and heal long after you leave our office.

Dance Medicine

Dancers generally have a good sense of how their bodies function and when they start to feel discomfort they alter their technique to avoid aggravating the injury. This creates imbalances and stress on inappropriate muscles, ligaments, and joints. Educating the dancer on proper ways to improve their technique is vital to preventing injuries down the road.  Dr Darcee Schmidt has specific training in dance injuries and will evaluate you based on dance specific movements and functional tests then design a custom tailored dance specific rehabilitation program and self care strategies to help promote injury prevention, safe dance training, and improve alignment.
